MS MIRACLE MEY LET TERI GARR WALK AGAIN!
ABREAKTHROUGH stem cell treatment that stops multiple sclerosis dead in its tracks — after just a single treatment — could be the miracle cure that has
Tootsie actress Teri Garr walking and dancing again after being crippled by the cruel disease for more than
20 years.
The 74-year-old Young Frankenstein star, who was seen in a wheelchair pushed by an assistant at
Target in L.A. on Jan. 22, suffers from the immune system disease that ravages the nervous system, robbing millions of speech, vision and balance while causing severe fatigue.
“Teri can’t do much at all without the assistance of her caretaker,” says a source. “Most of the time she can’t muster enough strength to walk, and when she can, it’s only for short distances.”
But the new therapy — autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation or HSCT — stops MS from progressing by rebuilding the immune system.
Researcher Dr. Richard K. Burt at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago says “only a minority of patients receiving HSCT relapse by the five-year mark. The vast majority don’t.”
And better still, only one treatment is required. “One time and you’re done, you’re off drugs,” Dr. Burt says.
Teri was at the peak of her career in 1983 when she began falling for no apparent reason. Finally in 1999, she received the devastating MS diagnosis.
“But she’s always been positive that someday someone would find a cure,” says the source.
HSCT also holds hope for other celebrities with MS like Selma Blair, Jack Osbourne and Montel Williams. Still, many experts are skeptical.
