10 THINGS YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT
TIM ALLEN didn’t let a checkered past keep him from Hollywood success. The ex-con went from being a popular stand-up comic to playing all-American dads on TV’s Home Improvement and Last Man Standing and voicing Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s Toy Story franchise, among other notable roles. Here are ten things you don’t know about the 65-year-old star.
1 As a kid, his mother told him: “Don’t aim so high. Hope for the best, expect the worst.”
2 He was arrested with more than a pound of cocaine in a Michigan airport in 1978, but served only 28 months after snitching on 21 thugs.
3 The judge in his drugtrafficking case told Tim he expected him to become “a very successful comedian.”
4 At the height of his Home Improvement fame, he was busted for drunk driving.
5 After getting sober in rehab, Allen became a man of faith. “I always ask whoever put me here — ‘the builder’ — ‘what did you want me to do?’” he reveals.
6 He says he owns “more cars than necessary,” including a 1965 Shelby cobra S/C and a 1933 Ford Roadster.
7 He was pals with late Apple founder Steve Jobs and recalls, “It was a friendship based on mutual interests in technology, in life and religion.”
8 Like his Last Man standing character, Mike Baxter, he became a licensed amateur radio operator under the call sign KK6OTD.
9 He’s starred in five Christmas movies — including three Santa Clause flicks.
10 He agreed to take his wife, Jane Hajduk, on an RV trip, so he bought a custom ride for their getaway.
