Shaken by backlash over urging Kevin to host Oscars
RATTLED Ellen DeGeneres may quit showbiz — after being slammed for backing controversial comic Kevin Hart as Oscars host!
“The pure hatred that came Ellen’s way after she supported reinstating Kevin on the Oscars was a huge shock to her,” snitches an insider.
“Ellen is used to being a beloved TV icon, and feels she’s getting too old to be the object of bullying.
“That’s why she hasn’t started to negotiate additional seasons of her talk show, which is signed only until next year.
“She’s been in a funk for weeks — and everyone’s wondering if 2019 is the year Ellen announces her retirement!”
The flap started when the comedian, 61, invited Hart on her talk show and encouraged him to reconsider hosting the Academy Awards on Feb. 24.
The Upside star backed out of the gig after homophobic tweets he made a decade ago resurfaced.
On her show, Ellen told Hart: “You have grown, you have apologized, you are apologizing again right now. You’ve done it. Don’t let those people win — host the Oscars.”
Although Ellen is worth a whopping $450 million, “she’s insecure as hell,” adds the insider. “She desperately needs acceptance from her peers and fans, and when even one person says something negative on social media, Ellen gets depressed.
“Some may think it’s strange the way she has to be liked all the time, but most comedians aren’t happy-go-lucky in their private lives. Everyone on the business side at least is worried she’ll quit.”
Sources say Ellen’s weary of the daily grind and wants to spend more time with wife Portia de Rossi.
“Portia’s been nagging Ellen to leave the show for years,” squeals the insider. “She’ll be dancing on air if Ellen doesn’t renew her contract.”
