Squabbling Osmonds break up Vegas act and may never work together AGAIN!
AFTER performing together for decades, Donny and Marie Osmond are calling it quits with their hit Las Vegas act because they’re fighting like cats and dogs, stunned insiders dish.
The brother and sister singing team announced they were ending their Sin City residency — which began in 2008 — in November.
Just days before the bombshell breakup, Donny, 61, went on TV and revealed he was furious with his kid sister because she spilled the beans about his secret identity as The Peacock on red-hot FOX competition show The Masked Singer.
“Don’t even bring Marie’s name up!” fumed the betrayed star, who headlined with his sibling on a 1970s ABC variety series. “I was so mad. That’s the last time I’m going to trust Marie with a secret.”
He added if Marie were on the FOX singing contest, she’d wear a “monster mask!”
The first sign of the widening rift appeared in December when Donny was noticeably absent for his older brothers’ farewell concert in Ogden, Utah, insiders say.
“Donny just couldn’t bare to do another show with Marie at that time,” a source spills.
Then, on Good Morning America on
March 21, he declared their show in Vegas was over, saying: “We’re here to say it’s official.”
“They’ve been touring together for 40 years and it’s gotten to the point that they can’t stand the sight of each other anymore,” says a source close to the showbiz siblings.
Although Donny praises Marie, 59, as “a professional” and says they have “a bond that will never be broken,” sources claim Donny’s had a bellyful of his younger sister’s drama-queen moodiness and is still nursing a grudge for what he sees as a lack of support when he was faced with a crippling injury.
“Personal tragedies always get the better of Marie,” the source says. “Donny feels like he always has to be the one to pull her together and keep the act going.
“He’s just grown tired of it.”
Even though he feared he’d never sing and dance again after his 2013 back injury, Marie joked about his situation, saying: “I’ve always known Donny’s a butt, now he’s proven it.” He flipped out over her comment, say insiders.
While now-slender Marie is a spokesgal for a famous diet plan, Donny got fed up with “building her ego back” when she was a fatty, the source snitches.
He’s also tired of picking up the pieces when she plunges into emotional despair. He was her rock after their nephew Troy killed himself in November and earlier when her son Michael jumped out of a high-rise in 2010.
The Puppy Love sensation’s rep insists he and Marie are thick as thieves and have each other’s backs. But sources say his patience with his sister has finally run out.
“Donny has had his fill of Marie for a while,” the insider says. “He needs space from his sister — and if he doesn’t get it, he’ll pull the curtain down on their partnership forever!”
That terrifies Marie, sources say. “Donny made the call on ending the residency,” the insider dishes. “Now Marie is terrified she won’t be able to make it without him!”
