Tom Cruise’s daughter makes perfect poster girl for controversial church
DESPITE mom Katie Holmes’ desperate attempts to shield daughter Suri Cruise from Scientology, the child’s superstar dad Tom Cruise is hell–bent on bringing the teen into the controversial religion, where members are forced to reveal their deepest secrets and hidden fears.
Suri, 13, has lived with actress mom Katie, 40, since
she divorced the Top Gun hunk in 2012, but sources say she’s since been targeted by church agents who followed her every move and reported back to her father and other Scientology leaders, insiders say.
“Suri was forced to choose between her parents when they split up and she chose her mom,” spills an insider. “The main reason Katie left Tom was to save her daughter from being brainwashed.”
But the 56-year-old Mission: Impossible hunk — who hasn’t been seen with his daughter in nearly six years — has secretly reconnected with Suri and is “meddling with her mind,” the insider dishes.
“Suri hasn’t been raised as a Scientologist, but now that Tom is communicating with her again, his aim will be to steer her back to the church,” says the source.
“He’s no doubt been putting Scientology thoughts into her head in the hopes that it will sink in.”
Ironically, Katie thought Suri was safe from the bizarre faith that teaches the spirits of space aliens killed in a nuclear holocaust eons ago inhabit
the bodies of humans, who must clear them from their consciousness.
Suri ‘belongs’ to Scientology
“Tom and Katie agreed when they divorced that he would have no say in their daughter’s life, especially in terms of religion,” says the insider.
“She would be mortified if she knew how much influence Tom seems to be exerting on her now.”
As actress Leah Remini says in her A&E series, Scientology and the Aftermath, Tom is worshipped as a “messiah” by the followers of the religion, which has been accused of controlling members by learning all their embarrassing secrets and using the information as leverage.
However, church officials insist this is not true.
But “Suri is a true princess” in Scientology’s eyes “and belongs with them,” the insider says.
The religion was grooming Suri as church royalty before Tom and Katie split, according to sources.
“She was kept under close watch at the church’s celebrity center and had aides on call 24/7 to fetch her candy or crayons and pick up after her,” snitches the insider.
But Suri’s Scientology training was stopped by the divorce.
Now, as a result of King of Queens star Remini’s exposés and other defectors, the church’s reputation has taken a beating, leaving Tom and Scientology bosses more desperate to lure Suri into the fold, sources say.
He’s already got the kids he adopted with ex-wife Nicole Kidman firmly in the church. Just last year, son Connor, 24, moved to Clearwater, Fla., to be closer to his dad, and is swiftly rising in the ranks at the church’s global headquarters. What’s more, Bella, 26, recently revealed she was training to be an auditor, who helps followers achieve higher levels of spiritual awareness.
And while Katie’s rep insists Suri is safe and not a target of Scientology recruitment, the star’s friends fear Tom will spirit the girl away forever.
“Tom’s determined to speed things up,” dishes the insider.
“He believes Suri will want to explore the inner reaches of the religion once he frees her from her mother’s apron strings.”
