NERVE AGONY PUTS CLAPTON IN WHEELCHAIR!
But brave rocker refuses to quit
GAUNT guitar hero Eric Clapton may be knocking on heaven’s door as the ailing axman continues to lose his agonizing fight against a crippling nerve disease that a source says is secretly confining him to a wheelchair!
Though the Layla legend still manages to make it through most of his performances on his feet, the snitch says as soon as the music man leaves the stage, he’s forced back into his chair because searing pain makes standing a living hell!
The 74-year-old former
boozer and ex-addict admitted in 2016 to suffering from peripheral neuropathy and explained, “You feel like you have electric shocks going down your leg.”
Though diabetes is the leading cause of the condition, it can also be brought on by physical injury, chemotherapy or alcoholism.
Now, the stricken Tears in Heaven singer has been reduced to traveling in a handicapped-accessible van, says the source.
“Eric is putting a brave face on his pain and bottling up his emotions. But he’s in agony and feels heartbroken he has to be wheeled around by assistants,” said the insider.
The source reports Eric is “doing his best to stand as much as he can during his current tour” but adds, “it’s very sad to see he needs a stool at times.”
Though the rocker’s rep claims “paparazzi have been chasing him all over London” and there are “plenty” of pics of him around town, a check of global photo agencies showed the last time Clapton was snapped while not performing was October 2018.
