SLEEPING WITH THE LIGHTS ON MAKES GALS FAT!

SHOCKING NEW STUDY:

-

WOMEN who regularly snooze with a light or television on are at a higher risk of becoming overweight, according to U.S. researchers.

The scientists analyzed selfreported data from nearly 45,000 women over an average of about six years and divided the participants into four groups based on their sleeping environments: no light, small night-light in the room, light outside the room and light or television on in the room.

The research team discovered the more light women experienced while at rest, the higher their body mass index. Additionally, those subjects’ sleep duration was shorter and their eating and exercise habits tended to be less healthy than gals who switched off artificial light sources.

Shockingly, women who kept a TV or light on in the room while slumbering had a

17 percent higher risk of gaining about 11 pounds compared to those who slept in darkness. Even more troubling, their odds of becoming overweight or obese were 22 percent and 33 percent higher respectively.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those who are obese are more likely to develop potentially deadly conditions, including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and some cancers.

“Sleeping with electronic devices, lights or TV on may be a hard habit to break,” says study co-leader Dr. YongMoon “Mark” Park of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

But Park, whose team is planning additional research related to artificial light exposure and weight gain, notes, “It seems reasonable to advise people not to sleep with lights on.”
