WILTING Whoopi Goldberg is locked in a make-or-break battle to save her life, GLOBE can reveal in a bombshell exclusive!
Sources tell GLOBE the sickly talk show queen, hospitalized earlier this year with crippling pneumonia, fears her recent 64th birthday could be her last!
The news follows an alarming episode on her show The View, where she wheezed and spluttered both on and off camera.
“Whoopi’s putting a brave face on things, but deep down she’s scared as all hell her lungs are going to pack up on her,” says an insider. “Everyone knows what a tough cookie she is, but there’s a real fear her ill health has caught up with her and it could be fatal!”
Back in March, Whoopi, who has won Oscar, Tony and Emmy awards, revealed she almost died from a bad bout of pneumonia — confirming an exclusive GLOBE report on her fight for life.
“I had pneumonia, and I was septic,” she told viewers. “Pneumonia in both lungs — which means there was fluid, there was all kinds of stuff going on. And, yes, I came very, very close to leaving the earth. Good news, I didn’t!”
Two months later, her doctor revealed Whoopi’d had a 30 percent chance of dying from the condition.
“She thought she’d beaten the odds, but it seems to have lingered, and the worry is that her lungs haven’t fully recovered,” adds the source. “Whoopi’s clearly still extremely frail, and the way she’s constantly coughing has a lot of people worrying the infection could return at any moment!”
To celebrate her recent birthday, Whoopi threw a ritzy party in New York City, inviting close friends, including Tiffany Haddish, Jane Krakowski and Phylicia Rashad.
“I think throwing such a big bash was Whoopi’s way of going out in style,” says the snitch.
“If this is to be her very last birthday, she wanted it to be a celebration to remember!”
