VET EUTHANIZES WRONG DOG!
Family enraged after mix-up over pooch with same name
IN A heartbreaking mixup, a vet mistakenly euthanized a family’s dog — after getting the okay from another dog mom whose pooch had the same name!
“He was our baby! My daughter’s best friend!” cries a grieving Andrea Martinez. “Ziggy followed me EVERYWHERE and cuddled me every single night.”
Andrea says the supercute dachshund was having breathing problems, so she took him to a Davis County animal hospital in Utah, where a vet recommended surgery, she says.
The family then left Ziggy and were told they’d get a call after the op.
The call came at 2:30 in the morning — and it was the vet on the line to tell a groggy Andrea that Ziggy had been put down!
Understandably, the animal lover “freaked out” and the confused vet put her on hold — only to come back to explain they’d apparently called the owner of another ailing dog named Ziggy and she okayed euthanizing the pooch!
The vet apologized profusely, Andrea says, waived their bill and gave them an urn, a plaque and a Christmas ornament with Ziggy’s paw print.
But the family remains devastated.
“They let a stranger decide my dog’s fate,” says Andrea. “I feel so sick that this happened.”
