Stem cell therapy works wonders on guys & gals
ASTEM cell discovery promises to banish baldness without the side effects of current remedies that lower sex drive and men’s ability to have erections.
Researchers say a solution from stem cells removed from fat tissue triggers the growth of hair follicles in men and women suffering alopecia pattern baldness, which strikes half of both sexes after age 50.
The discovery has excited hope for a cure from experts like Anthony Atala, director of North Carolina’s Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine.
“The topical solution created from proteins secreted by stem cells found in fat tissue proves to be both safe and effective,” says Atala, who published the findings in the STEM CELLS Translational Medicine journal.
In the study, scientists divided 38 baldies into two groups, giving the ADSC-CE stem cell solution to half and a placebo to the others.
The subjects rubbed the liquid on their heads and after 16 weeks, “the group that received the ADSC-CEs had a significant increase in both hair count and follicle diameter,” says senior researcher Young Jin Tak at South Korea’s Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital.
While baldness isn’t dangerous, it can mentally affect male suffers by lowering their selfesteem. Currently approved remedies have side effects of lower sex drive and sexual dysfunction, experts say.
Adds Atala: “We look forward to further findings that support this work.”
