TINNITUS RELIEF AT LAST!
Breakthrough treatment eases ringing in ears for 12 months!
TROUBLING tinnitus — often described as ringing in the ears — can be drastically reduced for up to 12 months following treatment with newly developed device, suggests a recent clinical trial.
Created by the Irish medical company Neuromod Devices Limited, Lenire consists of wireless headphones that pump noise into both ears, while also delivering electrical stimulation pulses to the tip of the tongue. The treatment seeks to target a subset of brain cells that are firing abnormally and reset auditory neurons.
The trial — overseen by an international team of researchers — involved more than 300 participants.
The scientists say 86 percent of “treatment compliant” individuals reported an improvement in the severity of their symptoms after 12 weeks and many experienced a sustained benefit up to 12 months after stopping treatment.
During the trial period, subjects were told to use the device for 60 minutes a day over 12 weeks.
The headphones delivered sequences of audio tones layered with wideband noise, while 32 electrodes provided electrical stimuli to the tongue.
According to the trial team, the devices were configured to each patient prior to the first treatment, but the timing, intensity and delivery could be managed by the participants via handheld controls.
“The outcomes are very exciting,” says Professor Hubert Lim of the University of Minnesota, “and I look forward to continuing our work to develop a bimodal neuromodulation treatment to help as many tinnitus sufferers as possible.”
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, tinnitus is an audiological and neurological condition affecting nearly 50 million Americans.
