MOB GODFATHER EXPOSED AS SNITCH!
Carmine ‘The Snake’ Persico secretly worked with the feds
THE SNAKE was a rat! Mob boss Carmine “The Snake” Persico was a “top echelon informant” for the feds, shocking new court papers allege.
Street-smart Persico headed the infamous Colombo crime family from 1973 until his death in 2019 — and presided over
New York City’s last major gang war as Colombo factions battled from 1991 to
1993.
But according to a 1971 Justice Department document that’s just now seen the light of day, the ruthless Mafia thug was also a turncoat!
“I think it changes the entire dynamic of how this so-called Colombo war has been sold,” says attorney David Schoen, who submitted the document recently in a Brooklyn Federal Court filing.
He unearthed the stunning twist through a Freedom of Information lawsuit while representing Victor “Little Vic” Orena, who’s 87, senile, serving a life sentence and seeking compassionate release from jail. According to popular belief, Orena challenged Persico’s position atop the Colombo family, triggering one of the bloodiest wars in mob history.
But Orena has long argued he was set up by Colombo turncoat Gregory Scarpa Sr. and his FBI handler, sparking the war with Persico.
Orena’s attorney argues Persico’s cooperation with the feds made the Colombo war more of a one-sided attack.
“It seems like perhaps it was being orchestrated from the top,” Schoen says.
The feds have acknowledged Scarpa “lied” and “misrepresented” his role in murders during the brutal Colombo civil war while also feeding them information.
Schoen was so flummoxed by the claim Persico was a fink that he met with federal agents who confirmed the documents were legit.
Persico’s former legal eagle blasted the idea that the gangster — who died in prison in 2019 at age 85 while serving a 139-year sentence — was a stool pigeon.
“This is ridiculous on its face,” huffs defense lawyer Anthony DiPietro. “If this were the truth, Carmine Persico would have won compassionate release and not have died in prison like a dog.”
