YEARS before he died from a drug overdose, pop superstar Prince suffered agonizing injuries in a freak bathtub accident and became a secret pill-popping junkie!
The weird, but tragic revelation comes from the new book Nothing Compares 2 U: An Oral History of Prince by music and culture critic Touré, who reveals then 26-yearold Prince was hurt while practicing a stunt to promote his 1984 Purple Rain tour.
To cap off the show, Prince planned a sequence where he wailed a song from a bathtub suspended a dozen feet above the stage, the author writes. But while performing the stunt in an arena near his Minnesota home, the tub crashed to the stage.
“It fell ten or 12 feet with him in it,” reveals the singer’s tour manager Alan Leeds.
“After that, his back hurt day after day. Then in L.A., he slipped and hurt his knee. He got some meds and finished the tour, but I don’t think his hip and his leg were ever completely normal after that.”
The injuries led the 5-foot-3 Little Red Corvette singer, who often walked with a cane, to the drug abuse that would kill him on April 21, 2016, people close to Prince told the author.
Ironically, Leeds says the singer was dead set against drugs early in his career. But eventually he got hooked and was killed by an accidental fentanyl overdose at his Paisley Park home. “Man is least himself when he talks in his own person.
