McCAIN TRASHES WHOOPI & JOY!
Claims co-hosts created ‘toxic’ environment on The View
RIGHT-WINGER Meghan McCain claims her nearly four years on The View were hell as she struggled in a “toxic” workplace that encouraged real, bitter battles with her co-hosts.
That’s the explosive dish by the late Sen. John McCain’s daughter in a new audiobook, Bad Republican, who is changing her tune since quitting the ABC gabfest in July.
At the time, she called liberal co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar “incredible broadcasters” and described her stint on The View as “one of the hands-down greatest, most exhilarating, wonderful privileges of my entire life.”
Now Meghan, 37, insists the debates with Whoopi and Joy were real — and the bad blood continued off camera. Citing “a hostile work environment,” McCain charges Goldberg treated her with “open disdain.”
While an insider says ABC News addressed all the complaints Meghan raised, she fumes, “There’s stuff that happens on The View that shouldn’t be allowed.”
When she returned from maternity leave, McCain claims Joy told her she wasn’t missed. “I felt like I’d been slapped,” she says.
She also accuses bigwigs of ratcheting up tension so viewers would keep tuning in “to see if this is the day that someone storms off the set forever.”
She also attacks the “constant media slams” against her as an outspoken gal as “emotionally and mentally taxing.” She notes if men raise their voices in debate “they’re respected as passionate and serious. If I push for my ideas, I’m a princess menacing everyone.”
An ABC spokesperson tells GLOBE: “For 25 years, The View has been a platform on air and behind the scenes for strong women,” and insists the team is “collaborative and supportive.”
