She can’t get over Van Halen’s death
KITCHEN cutie Valerie Bertinelli has kicked her current hubby of ten years to the curb and insiders insist the split was caused by the ghost of her dead first husband, rocker Eddie Van Halen!
The star of Food Network’s Valerie’s Home Cooking slapped money man Tom Vitale with legal separation docs on Nov. 27.
Sources snitch the 61-yearold former sitcom star is still carrying a torch for the guitar legend, who she divorced in 2007. She was shattered when the father of her son, Wolfgang, died of a stroke at age 65 in October 2020.
“Valerie considers Eddie the love of her life and she always will. When he died he took a part of her with him,” spills an insider. “It caused problems between her and Tom, who could never measure up to his predecessor."
The One Day at a Time and Hot in Cleveland beauty wed financial planner Tom on New Year’s Day, 2011, but pals say there was tension over Eddie from the beginning.
“There were three people in this marriage — Valerie, Tom and Eddie, and not in that order either!” tattles the insider.
“Eddie and Valerie had an unbreakable bond. They spoke every day. They loved each other and were best friends.”
In fact, when Van Halen died, teary-eyed Valerie confessed on TV she still loved him, saying: “He’s the father of the greatest gift in my life. I miss him. And I’m allowed to miss him.”
The rocker and sitcom babe wed in 1981 and a decade later welcomed Wolfgang, now 30. They separated in 2001 before divorcing in 2007.
But Valerie “doted” on the Jump hitmaker during his battles with lung cancer, skin cancer on his head and neck, and a bone marrow disorder.
“Valerie worried so much,” the insider reveals. “It was clear to everyone around them that Eddie came first before Tom, and that’s hard for any
husband to take.”
Now, Valerie’s hoping for a friendly parting with Tom. Sources say they have a prenup.
“They grew apart and anyone with eyes and ears knew it was because of Eddie,” snitches the insider. “He was always there between them and he still is! Valerie doesn’t want to let that go.”
