MONACO AND THE PRISONER OF THE PALACE

-

IMAGINE this plot for a movie thriller.

A beautiful commoner weds a prince, but instead of a happy fairy tale, her marriage turns into a sinister nightmare.

While she bears him heirs to the throne, and wonderfully performs her royal duties, he’s a cruel, arrogant, womanizing slug who treats her like dirt, mentally abuses her and destroys her self-esteem while he chases after mistresses.

She feels trapped, but when she tries to flee to her home country where her family lives, her cold-hearted hubby ships her off to a mental hospital — publicly announcing that she needs a long rest.

With his wealth and power, he controls judges and shrinks and the princess finds herself a tragic prisoner, trapped in an inescapable hell.

Of course, this is a made-up movie storyline.

But if a clever screenwriter wanted to pen a fictionalized account of runaway Princess Charlene of Monaco — well, this imagined plot could sure fit.

We don’t know if Charlene, who Prince Albert has shipped off to a secret location to recover from mental and physical “fatigue,” is really in need of that kind of treatment.

What we do know is that their relationship was a disaster from the get-go.

During the decade he wooed the leggy, blond Olympic swimmer from South Africa, balding Albert was cheating.

He admittedly knocked up one gal and is currently accused of fathering another love child, which he denies, during the time he was romancing Charlene.

Just days before their 2011 ritzy royal wedding, Charlene tried to bolt back to South

Africa. Sources claim she was stopped by palace officials, who kept her passport.

Earlier this year, after the latest accusations came out that Albert fathered a 16-yearold girl with a gal during the time he was romancing Charlene, the humiliated princess cut off her hair and then split for South Africa.

She stayed for ten months, receiving treatment for a sinus problem, before returning to Monaco, her six-year-old twins and Albert on Nov. 8.

Charlene looked frail and sad. Just ten days later, Albert announced she was shipped off to Switzerland for a rest.

Is Charlene being held against her will like the princess in our made-up script? Is she allowed to see her friends and her South African relatives?

No one’s talking. But it would make a great flick — if it wasn’t so close to the bone!
