She doesn’t drink, so he won’t either
BOOZE-BATTLING Ben Affleck’s revived love affair with Jennifer Lopez is making it easier for the hunk to stay off the sauce because she’s totally down on drinking, spies tell GLOBE.
The 49-year-old actor has checked into rehab four times between 2001 to 2019 to control his alcoholism, but insiders chatter 52-year-old J.Lo is the Batman star’s best hope to stay sober.
“Jennifer is anti-drug and against drinking,” says the source. “She’s not up for dealing with someone struggling with sobriety.
“She made it clear to Ben when they got back together, that if they were going to pick up where they left off almost 20 years ago, he had to make sure his drinking days were behind him.
“He was so happy to have her back, that it gave him that extra little push to stay sober.”
The hunk’s problem with previous galpals “is they drank or at least wanted an occasional glass of vino,” notes the source.
“That made it hard for him to sit opposite them at a table while they enjoyed wine with a good meal.”
But in their second-time-around romance, the older versions of Ben and J.Lo have “similar lifestyles,” says the source. “They are both non-drinkers and devoted parents who are working hard on their careers.
“Reuniting with Jen has let him see you can live a happy, wonderful life without drinking.”
Booze has haunted Ben since he was 12, when his dad Tim’s drinking made his childhood unhappy, says the source.
“Now he’s determined to build a new life with Jen, her twins and his three children with Jennifer Garner, and he knows that sobriety has to be a huge part of a successful relationship,” adds the source.
