FEUD OVER LARRY KING $60M FORTUNE
LEGENDARY TV talker Larry King, 87, continued to make headlines after a sepsis infection linked to his weeklong fight with COVID-19 took his life in a Los Angeles hospital on Jan. 23.
His death sparked a ferocious war over his
$50 million estate between his widow, Shawn — his eighth wife, who he was divorcing after 22 years — and his oldest son, Larry Jr., 60. But that was just the final controversy surrounding the Emmy-winning CNN legend turned infomercial pitchman.
King lost a Miami radio gig and a job as a TV sportscaster after being arrested on grand larceny charges filed by a former business partner, who accused Larry of stealing $5,000 to pay gambling debts. The charges were later dismissed and he rebounded to become one of America’s favorite pop personalities.
Larry’s last years were haunted by lung cancer and marriage troubles. King filed to divorce the woman who became his widow after Shawn was accused of carrying on a torrid affair with their son’s baseball coach. She denied the fling, but their marriage was strained to the breaking point.
After the chat show host died, Shawn produced a 2015 document she claimed made her executor of Larry’s fortune, while her stepson claimed to have a handwritten 2019 will that cut the
62-year-old widow out of any cash.
In the end, they decided to work things out between them.
“Larry Jr. got a share and is happy,” says a source. “Shawn remains in control of the majority of the finances, which will eventually be split between her sons with Larry, Chance and Cannon.”
