FINAL TOUR KILLED MONKEE MIKE NESMITH
FRAIL and barely able to walk, Mike Nesmith worked himself into the grave by insisting on a final tour with The Monkees.
The 78-year-old passed away of an apparent heart attack at his home Dec. 10.
His death came a month after the final Nov. 14 show of The Monkees Farewell Tour with Micky Dolenz, 76, the only other surviving member of the Prefab Four, at L.A.’s Greek Theatre.
Peter Tork died in 2019 and singer Davy Jones in 2012. The Monkees were put together for a 1960s NBC TV show and scored huge hits including Last Train to Clarksville and I’m a Believer.
Monkees biographer Mark Bego says Nesmith looked “like death warmed over” at a September performance.
“Mike had to be led on and off the stage and had to sit in a chair most of the time because he was wearing a back brace!” he recalls.
