SEVEN SIGNS OF KIDNEY DISEASE

-

NEARLY 90 percent of people with kidney disease don’t know they have it, according to the National Kidney Foundation. Here are seven symptoms docs say could be signs of the condition.

Fluid retention resulting in swollen ankles, feet and legs.

Increased nighttime urination as the body’s excess fluid is reabsorbed by the kidneys.

Fatigue brought on by fewer red blood cells.

Bloody pee or foamy urine, which usually indicates abnormally high levels of the protein albumin.

Dry, scaly skin that cracks easily due to a buildup of minerals in the body.

Loss of appetite. Dr. Staci Leisman, a nephrologist at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital, says one-third of patients with end-stage kidney disease report a metallic taste in their mouths.

Muscle cramps.

Faulty kidneys leave folks susceptible to electrolyte imbalances.
