KILLER ANT RAMPAGE STOPPED AT LAST!
SCIENTISTS have discovered a common fungus stops armies of chicken-killing super ants dead in their tracks as they relentlessly march across America!
Originally from Brazil and Argentina, terrible tawny ants — commonly called crazy ants for their erratic movements — are now destroying native North America insects and small animals as well as causing electrical fires as they spread from Texas.
Until now, there was no way to stop the miniature monsters, which kill chickens and other critters by clogging their nasal cavities, resulting in
suffocation and a quick meal.
Omnivorous tawny ant armies will also swarm into electrical boxes and equipment, clogging switches and triggering short circuits that can cause shutdowns and even spark dangerous fires.
The ants caused nearly $150 million in damages in Texas in one year alone.
But the natural fungus microsporidia has become a super-weapon against the invaders.
Biologist Edward LeBrun at Brackenridge Field Laboratory in Austin says the fungus wiped out crazy ant colonies in 62 percent of test areas!
