FACE TRANSPLANT GAVE HERO NEW LIFE!

-

MORE than a decade after receiving one of the world’s first full face transplants, a heroic military veteran says having the pioneering procedure was the “best decision” of his life!

Mitch Hunter endured a historic 14-hour operation in 2011 — ten years after being severely disfigured in a car crash — because he didn’t want his future kids to be “bullied” over his gruesome appearance!

Hunter’s flesh pulsed for five full minutes when he made contact with a 10,000volt electrical wire after the horrifying North Carolina car wreck. He managed to save a passenger from a similar fate — but in the process his own face melted!

Indiana native Hunter, now 42, explains, “I suffered full thickness burns on every inch of my face along with my hands and right leg. The burn on my leg was so severe I was also forced to have a below-theknee amputation.”

Weeks later, Hunter finally saw himself in a mirror and recalls, “I was unrecognizable.” He decided to get an almost unprecedented full face transplant.

A 30-person medical team at Boston’s Brigham & Women’s Hospital carefully repaired Hunter’s looks, using an organ donor’s face, which included skin, soft tissue, cartilage and eyebrows.

The father of three says the life-changing transplant “helped me put the accident behind me and finally move on!”
