MACKENZIE: I BED MAMAS & PAPAS!
TV kid’s bisexual confession after incest bombshell
FORMER child sitcom star Mackenzie Phillips has dropped a bombshell revelation — she’s bisexual and her affairs with gals was driven by her rape by her father, Mamas & the Papas singer John Phillips.
The 62-year-old, best known for playing Valerie Bertinelli’s sister in One Day at a Time from 1975 to 1983, admits: “I’ve had boyfriends, I’ve had girlfriends, you know, throughout my life.
“I am neither one nor the other. I mean, I love everybody — not everybody. Almost. It can be ‘messy!’”
Her shocking confession follows an earlier blockbuster admission.
On the night before 19-yearold Mackenzie was to wed rock manager Jeff Sessler in 1979, she says her father, John, raped her while they were high on speedballs, the powerful cocaine-heroin mix that killed famed comic John Belushi.
At the time, he was wed to the third of his four wives, Genevieve Waite, mom of Mackenzie’s half-siblings Bijou and Tamerlane.
The incestuous affair continued until 1989 when she got knocked up and had an abortion because she didn’t know if John was the father.
Mackenzie says when she later confronted her dad about the rape before he died at 65 in 2001, he told her: “You mean when we made love?”
An insider says the incestuous affair “with her dad really messed with her head. John never acknowledged he’d raped her that first time. Mackenzie suffered from crippling insecurities and spiraled deeper into drug addiction.
“All these things drove her into the arms of both men and women.”
Now working as an addiction recovery therapist at Hollywood’s Breathe Life Healing Center, she’s had three husbands — Sessler, rock guitarist Shane Fontayne (a.k.a. Michael Barakan), dad of her only child, Shane, now 35, and The Who’s conductor Keith Levenson.
Finally sober after a 2008 drug bust, Mackenzie says, “I’m a living, breathing plug for long-term recovery. Not only did I survive, I actually am thriving.”
