DOUGLAS’ FRIGHT OF WINGER’S BITE

Talk about once bitten! MICHAEL DOUGLAS, 77, just dropped a bombshell blast from the past, confessing he axed front-runner DEBRA WINGER as his leading lady in 1984’s box office smash Romancing the Stone — after she bit him! “She comes with us to have dinner one night and we’re knocking back tequilas, we walk out and, just as you would kind of go ‘Oh you!’ and give someone a punch in the arm, she goes ‘Oh you!’ and she reaches over and she bites me, on my arm. She bites me. She’s joking and I’m looking at her thinking, ‘she’s broken the skin.’” Once back in Hollywood after the Texas tasting, Douglas says, “We go down to see the studio to talk to them about Debra Winger and I break down in tears and say, ‘I can’t go to the jungle with her — she bit me on the arm! I can’t do it. It’s not worth it!’ So they said, ‘OK, all right.’” And that’s how sultry KATHLEEN TURNER got to sink her teeth into the juicy part!
