✚ ULTRALONG fingernails are all the rage with celebs like Billie Eilish and Cardi B. But experts warn these types of terrible talons — whether artificial or natural — may harbor harmful microorganisms! American University biology prof Dr. Jeffrey Kaplan says, “Studies have found 32 different bacteria and 28 different fungi underneath fingernails.” He explains a microbe overgrowth could cause infections, leading to nail disfigurement, and cautions, “You can transmit fingernail bacteria to your system by scratching, nail-biting, nose-picking and finger-sucking.”
