GHOSTBUSTERS legend Dan Aykroyd has been wed for 39 years to stunner Donna Dixon and they have three kids — but the real love of his life is late Star Wars princess Carrie Fisher, sources tattle.
Now, as the 69-year-old SNL alum and Donna, 64, announced they’re formally separating — but staying married — a source dishes Carrie was Dan’s “first and most enduring love and she was always on his mind.”
Aykroyd and Carrie, who died of heart failure five years ago at age 60, met on Saturday Night Live in 1977. They reunited to make The Blues Brothers two years later and plunged into a steamy affair.
“Carrie and I fell in love and during the shoot she moved in with me in a penthouse suite,” says Aykroyd, who has daughters Danielle, 32, Belle, 28, and Stella, 24, with Dixon.
Madly in love, Dan quickly popped the question in a bizarre incident. “He was forcing me to eat because I was very thin,” Carrie recalled. “And I inhaled a Brussels sprout. He thought I was laughing, but saw I was dying and ten minutes later, asked me to marry him.”
The Trading Places star gave Carrie a sapphire ring and whisked her to Lake Tahoe, where they popped brain-bombing LSD and spent “three days of full-on weeping to Christmas classics.”
His hopes for a lifetime romance were dashed when she left him in 1982 to return to her folk singer ex Paul Simon, who she married in 1983 and divorced the next year.
Dan also wed Donna in 1983, but “he never stopped loving Carrie,” says the source.
