TIGHTWAD Tom Selleck is worth an estimated $45 million and pockets a whopping $500,000 per Blue Bloods episode, but sources squeal he frets over every penny and hoards his dough like a miser.
The 77-year-old stud hit it big at 35 when he scored Magnum, P.I., which ran from 1980 to 1988, and has been socking away cash ever since from flicks like Three Men and a Baby, TV commercials and his current cop drama that began in 2010.
But an insider snitches the 6-foot-4 hunk’s “philosophy is every dollar saved is a dollar earned and that hasn’t changed even though he’s one of the richest TV stars around.”
The father of Kevin, 56, with first wife Jacqueline Ray and Hannah, 33, with wife Jillie Mack, claims he’s still “got a mortgage” despite his fortune, and sources say he refuses to splurge on himself.
“Tom doesn’t treat himself to nice clothes and wears the same shirt and shorts on his off time, and drives a pickup truck that’s seen better days,” tattles the insider.
“He’s a guy who doesn’t spend and hates parting with his cash. That’s why he won’t quit the show, to his wife’s dismay. He’s got a ranch to maintain and bills to pay.
“He feels the need to build a nest egg for his family to live on when he’s gone, which won’t be for a while, but he’s got grown kids and grandkids to look after.
“Yet some people think his stockpiling is also a result of him just being cheap.”
