THE GOONIES PIRATE SHIPWRECK FOUND!
REMNANTS of the 17thcentury shipwreck that inspired the classic kids’ adventure movie The Goonies have been discovered in sea caves on the Oregon coast!
The Spanish galleon Santo Cristo de Burgos was transporting valuable Chinese silk, porcelain and beeswax from the Philippines to Mexico when it mysteriously vanished in 1693. The boat’s 300-year-old legend inspired filmmaker Steven Spielberg to cook up the 1985 flick, which saw a ragtag group of kids — played by young stars including Sean Astin, Corey Feldman and Josh Brolin — hunting for the sunken treasure of pirate One-Eyed Willy.
State officials confirmed wood fragments recovered by a team of specialists dates back to the time of the ship’s disappearance.
Archeological investigator Jim Delgado says, “These timbers are physical evidence for the stories that have been known and passed down through generations.”
