MONKEYPOX MENACE!
AHORRIFYING disease related to killer smallpox — monkeypox — is spreading at wildfire speed across the globe like COVID and no one is safe from the scourge, scientists warn!
In the U.S. alone, the virus exploded from a single case to nearly 3,000 other infections in less than two months — spreading faster than medical experts can learn to cope with the illness, which leaves the body covered in horrifying sores.
Worldwide cases recently topped 14,000 incidents and the World Health Organization has declared a global emergency as some scientists suggest monkeypox is a pandemic.
In fact, the U.S. Centers
GLOBE / August 15, 2022 for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is so alarmed, the national Emergency Operations Center was ordered to organize a battle plan against the vicious virus and throw more resources into the war.
So far, the CDC believes the sometimes fatal disease has been spread mostly through sex between men with a median age of 36 years old. But it can also be spread by animals.
The disease appears with sores that pop up as a rash of pimples or blisters on the face, inside the mouth, and on parts of the body, like the hands, feet, chest, genitals or anus.
Victims often suffer fever, headaches, muscle and back pain, swollen glands, chills and exhaustion.
The disease usually runs its course in two to four weeks.
However, it can be deadly — leading to pneumonia or brain or eye infections that prove fatal.
The CDC has two vaccines, but suggests antiviral medicines for people with poor immune symptoms.
Monkeypox patients should isolate at home and avoid contact with people or pets.
PREVENTION includes:
No skin-to-skin contact with anyone with a monkeypox rash by touching, hugging, kissing or sex.
Don’t share knives, forks, glasses or dishes with the infected.
Avoid touching bedding, towels or clothing of infected people.
Frequently wash hands with soap or alcohol sanitizer after being around someone with the disease.
