TENNIS’ NOVAK SERVES UP VACCINE SWILL
TENNIS superstar Novak Djokovic claims refusing to get COVID shots makes him a warrior for “freedom of choice” and he’s “willing to pay the price” for his protest by being banned from top tournaments like next month’s U.S. Open.
But Djokovic’s refusenik behavior strikes a strange chord because the 35-yearold Serb also insists,“I was never against the vaccine” and admits “there are vaccines that have little side effects that have helped stop the spread of some infections around the world.”
So what’s the big deal?
As an athlete — or even an ordinary slob like the rest of us — Novak’s entitled to eat and medicate as he chooses.
But apparently the bigheaded dude isn’t worried about contracting the killer virus!
He’s arrogantly confident he can beat the bug — since he already had COVID — and is healthy, young and in top shape.
And he’s right — at least about himself! But most people aren’t in his top condition.
When the world is fighting a pandemic, lots of folks argue you must surrender the right to pick and choose if it affects the effort to stamp out the danger to others.
Science insists the COVID vaccines are safe and have saved countless lives. And similar shots have all but eradicated smallpox, polio, chicken pox, measles and other deadly diseases.
Novak seems to agree. So it’s baffling this overpaid jock travels the world putting other people at risk while serving up a heaping helping of personal pride.
