Ellen’s ex trapped in burning car after smashing house in bizarre rampage
TROUBLED actress Anne Heche barely cheated death — but was horribly burned — after her car slammed into a Hollywood home and burst into flames just minutes after ramming a garage door a few blocks away.
“Anne is in the ICU. She’s in a coma and lucky to be alive,” says a source close to the actress, who played Corrine Cuthbert in TV’s legal drama All Rise.
“She has severe burns and has a long recovery ahead. Her team and her family are still trying to process what led up to the crash.”
The 53-year-old actress, whose three-year romance with Ellen DeGeneres ended in 2000, was roaring around behind the wheel of a blue Mini Cooper in L.A.’s Mar Vista area when tragedy struck, according to witnesses.
Her car first slammed into an apartment complex’s garage, but before residents could get her out of the vehicle, she backed away and sped off, lawmen say.
Then she jumped a curb and smashed into a house, which burst into flames along with Heche’s car. Anne was trapped inside, but rescued.
Firefighters spent more than an hour getting the blaze under control.
The actress, who starred with Harrison Ford in 1998’s Six Days, Seven Nights, was taken to a nearby hospital, with injuries too severe for her to be tested for booze at the time. Lawmen have since filed a legal request to analyze her blood work for alcohol content.
A source who reviewed photos of the scorched car notes, “There’s a bottle with a red cap in the cupholder next to the gearshift, and it looks like a bottle of alcohol.”
As the actress was hauled away on a stretcher, the source says: “Her clothes were charred. She was covered in a white cloth when she suddenly sat up on the stretcher and started flailing wildly as they put her in the ambulance.”
Following her breakup with Ellen, Anned wed cameraman Coley Laffoon, father of her son Homer, 20. They divorced in 2009. She then plunged into a ten-year affair with actor James Tupper, father of her son Atlas, 13, that ended in 2018.
Anne previously admitted using drugs to cope with being sexually abused by her father, saying: “I drank. I smoked. I did drugs. I had sex with people. I did anything I could to get the shame out of my life.”
