LEGAL-EAGLE KIM GETS PLUCKED!
$1.2M fine for tricking investors casts cloud on law career dream
WANNABE lawyer Kim Kardashian has been fined a whopping $1.26 million for her role in a pump and dump cryptocurrency scam — and experts say her legal blunder could torpedo the reality queen’s bid to become an attorney.
In a shocking move, the Securities and Exchange Commission slapped the 42-yearold reality TV diva with civil charges accusing her of illegally hustling EthereumMax cryptocash on her Instagram page without revealing she’d scored $250,000 to push the product.
Kim paid a whopping $1.26 million fine — without admitting guilt — and agreed to testify as a prosecution witness in the feds’ probe of the company’s bigwigs.
In a separate class action lawsuit, The Kardashians star was accused of collaborating with the crypto creators to defraud potential investors about possible returns using “false and misleading statements.”
Also named in the action were boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and retired
NBA star Paul Pierce.
Legal sources now say Kim’s blunder could make it more difficult for her to obtain her law license in California even if she’s able to pass the state’s supertough bar exam.
Lawyer Joe Gutheinz says the feds’ probe could “delay” Kim’s acceptance by the state bar, but believes that at the end of the day, she will be granted her license to practice if she passes the exam.
Luckily, the case is not criminal because a conviction would seriously jeopardize her chances of practicing law, Gutheinz notes, adding: “As a civil settlement, she’s dodging the harsh consequences of her actions.”
Defense attorney Pete Gleason explains, “Any and all criminal or civil actions that a bar applicant has been a party to would be considered as part of their application to the state bar and can complicate the licensing process.
“But I don’t think they’re not going to let her be a lawyer.”
