Linda Thompson saved the addicted King’s life 12 times but has been erased from his legacy
ELVIS PRESLEY’s last love, beauty queen Linda Thompson, reveals the rock ’n’ roll superstar was so drugged out in his final years, he almost drowned in a bowl of soup.
Still, the stunning 72-yearold songwriter, who later wed Olympic champ Bruce Jenner before he sex-swapped to Caitlyn, calls the Heartbreak Hotel singer the love of her life.
Linda was a drop-dead gorgeous, 22-year-old Miss Tennessee when she and a friend were invited to a private screening with Presley and his 13-pal Memphis Mafia in July 1972.
“He came into the cinema very grumpy, then shone a light round and rested it on my face,” she recalls. “‘Well, hello,’ he purred … He sat next to me and nuzzled into my neck.
“I pulled away as I thought he was married still. He told me: ‘Honey, we split up six months ago, I’m single.’
“We spent the night kissing and cuddling. Kissing Elvis was like plunging your lips into two soft, sweet marshmallows — his lips were so sexy and soft.
“He smelled so fresh — of the Neutrogena soap he used.”
That began a nearly fiveyear affair. He flew her to Las Vegas, where he was appearing, and she moved in with him.
They were “madly in love” and two months later, he took her virginity in the mirroredceiling presidential suite of the Las Vegas Hilton.
“It was magical. He was a sensual, tender lover,” she recalls.
But they lived a bizarre nocturnal life sleeping until 9 p.m. Elvis had become drug-addled, popping prescription pills to wake up and go to sleep.
“Once, he fell asleep after taking a sleeping tablet and
went headfirst into a bowl of chicken soup. I pulled him out as he would have choked to death,” she recalls.
“Those last years, I saved his life about ten to 12 times.”
His pill-popping got so bad she “was afraid he’d die on my watch.”
In the last years, he cheated on her and she finally walked out when she learned he was keeping another gal — Ginger Alden — in the same hotel in November 1976.
Elvis died at age 42 eight months later — and since his death Linda’s role in his life has been largely ignored while his ex-wife, Priscilla, who Thompson says “didn’t even visit him in the hospital,” has become a heroine.
