Bleeding out as legal bills soar over criminal rap for movie death
FREAKING out over possibly being tossed behind bars after being charged in the shooting death of movie camerawoman Halyna Hutchins, Rust gunman Alec Baldwin is in double danger of financial problems as legal bills mount and acting gigs disappear, sources say.
“Baldwin’s hired the best legal counsel he can and that’s likely to have already set him back hundreds of thousands — and once the case is done, win or lose, his bill could run into the millions,” spills an insider.
The 64-year-old actor and movie armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed are facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter each in the killing of Hutchins, 42. She was fatally shot on the New Mexico set of the low-budget Western Rust when a revolver Baldwin was holding fired a live round in October 2021.
Baldwin insists he didn’t pull the trigger, but subsequent FBI tests found that was the only way the six-shooter would fire. He denies any responsibility for the tragedy, blaming crew members. However, he faces up to five years in the slammer if convicted. Sources say he’s sweating bullets as he drains his bank accounts to pay his legal team.
“He’s not broke yet but there are fears his finances may not be up for the huge expenses to come,” reveals the insider. “Every legal move he makes costs a ton and his accounts are likely taking an absolute hammering.”
Sources say his net worth plunged by $10 million in January alone, with his wealth now estimated at $60 million.
The former 30 Rock star’s supporting second wife Hilaria and their seven kids, Carmen, 9, Rafael, 7, Leonardo, 6, Romeo, 4, Eduardo, 2, Lucia, 2, and new baby Ilaria, in their Manhattan pad and a massive Vermont farm.
Baldwin has a few movies in development, and production on Rust will continue despite the charges.
“Alec’s putting a heap of money into his defense right now and it’s likely he’s going to be struggling,” confides the insider. “If he winds up with jail time, it will take longer for him to recover financially.”
