STARVING POLAR BEAR KILLS MOM & BABY!
Predator prowled Alaska schoolyard before bloody attack
AYOUNG mother and her year-old son were fatally mauled by a rampaging polar bear in northwest Alaska — and experts warn attacks by the colossal carnivores are on the rise!
Summer Myomick, 24, and little Clyde Ongtowasruk were ripped to shreds by the bloodthirsty beast right near an entrance to an elementary school in Wales!
The ravenous man-eater had chased several locals — and even tried to breach the Kingikmiut School building — before it targeted terrified Summer and her baby boy. A gun-toting resident shot the bear dead on the spot as it savaged the mother and son — but the mortally wounded pair could not be saved.
According to school district administrator Susan R. Nedza, the facility’s staffers had ushered people indoors earlier in the day when the killer critter was first spotted. She says, “The bear tried to enter with them,” but principal Dawn Hendrickson “slammed the door” to keep it out!
Nedza reveals members of the remote community, which is just 50 miles from Russia, are grappling with “crippling grief” over the tragedy.
Though the deaths are the state’s first fatal polar bear mauling in 30 years, experts say deadly encounters are on the upswing. They believe shrinking sea ice is sending the hungry predators farther inland to search for alternative food sources — like unsecured garbage.
“In this case, the bear had chased multiple people, which indicates it’s a bear that’s desperate,” says Geoff York, senior director of conservation at Polar Bears International. “Polar bears should be out on ice successfully finding natural prey — seals, small walrus and other animals in that region — so what this particular bear was doing onshore remains to be seen.
“This was the time of year that I think if I lived in Wales, my guard would be down.”
