Fears there’s a problem on the horizon
BARACK and Michelle Obama are turning to booze to get them through their recent tough times, according to insiders who say the former first couple should quit bingeing before they can’t stop!
Sources snitch the 61-yearold former prez and Michelle, 59, have been bending their elbows a little more than usual these days as the pressures of their respective careers pull them in separate directions.
“They think there’s nothing wrong with indulging in a cocktail or three at the end of the day, and it’s definitely not a problem for them,” spills an insider. “They just like a little relaxation and it’s not like they do it every day.”
Michelle and Barack love wine, especially a fine Italian vintage, and she “considers herself a connoisseur who knows which grapes complement which foods,” blabs the insider.
“Barack and Michelle also adore their martinis.”
Michelle recently revealed their daughters, Malia, 24, and Sasha, 21, hosted them for cocktails at their shared L.A. apartment.
“We were going to take them to dinner and they said, ‘Why don’t you come over to our spot for cocktails!’ ” Michelle admitted recently on NBC’s Today show.
“And we were like, ‘Okay, let’s see what this is going to be like.’ ”
The Becoming author then griped, “The martinis were a little weak. I don’t think they really knew what it was.”
But the insider insists “Sasha and Malia now know how to make martinis that will get their parents good and loaded. Michelle likes hers on the strong side.”
As GLOBE previously reported, Michelle and Barack have been weathering more than a few hiccups in their marriage, with the former commander-in-chief living mostly on the East Coast and Michelle staying close to their daughters in L.A. as she pursues her own showbiz career.
“Michelle and Barack don’t always get along, and they are more jovial after they’ve had a tipple,” tattles the insider.
“But it’s raising eyebrows among the more conservative people in their crowd who think they should nip it before it becomes a serious problem to their health and their waistlines.”
