LIVID Michelle Obama exploded in a ballistic fury after catching hubby Barack enjoying a cozy hotel huddle with his old crush Caroline Kennedy during a brief jaunt Down Under, stunned spies snitch!
Michelle’s meltdown came as photogs caught the manic 59-year-old former first lady leaving a posh Aussie eatery in Sydney — with sheepish Barack, 61, in tow — just hours after he’d slipped off with secretly single Caroline, who insiders say triggered an Obama marital rift when she was caught kissing the then-president and cavorting with him on a Cape Cod beach in 2015!
After being caught at the hotel, sources insist shamefaced Barack was saying his meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Australia Caroline was all business — but Michelle’s not buying it, especially since Kennedy’s hubby has been parked 10,000 miles away almost from the start of her tour of duty. Just hours after their plane touched down in kangaroo land for a speaking tour, Barack slipped away for his private rendezvous with Caroline, 65, who sources say is all but divorced from her New York City–based hubby, Edwin Schlossberg, father of her three adult kids.
“The last thing Michelle needed was to see her man back in close quarters with Caroline,” a source dishes. “He’s spent the last eight years claiming there is nothing between them and then he sneaks off for a private meeting the minute they arrive.”
As GLOBE has reported, insiders say the daughter of President John F. Kennedy and Jackie Onassis and Schlossberg have been living separate lives, with the art dealer remaining in the Big Apple while Caroline dropped anchor in Australia at her diplomatic post.
“She and Ed see each other because of business interests and their children, but it’s a marriage in name only,” a source spills.
Caroline sowed the seeds for this latest explosive encounter eight years ago when the Obamas crashed a Kennedy family vacation in Martha’s Vineyard and she made off with Barack for a romantic romp in the surf — causing Michelle to melt down!
“Michelle lit into Barack and, sources said, ordered him to keep Caroline out of their lives,” tattles the insider.
But that wasn’t the first time Caroline made Michelle hopping mad. She went ballistic the year before when she saw photos of her husband sharing a kiss with Caroline in Japan, where she served as Obama’s ambassador to the U.S. ally!
Meanwhile, the volcanic blowouts between the bickering Obamas are the stuff of legend.
They’ve each been snapped without wedding rings — and
sources reported Michelle even pushed to have her lawyers draw up papers to prepare for a $150 million divorce.
Sources snitch they’ve grown apart as Michelle strives to conquer Tinseltown through her Higher Ground production company, win over important celebrity pals and glam up for younger guys.
Just last year, Barack blew a gasket over his wife’s romantic Miami weekend with 38-yearold Formula One racing champ Lewis Hamilton.
“Michelle isn’t going to be dictated to by anyone, especially after Barack’s hijinks with Caroline!” the source tattles.
“Their fights have gotten toxic. They yell and scream at each other all the time.”
Still, the couple is not likely to split as long as each benefits from their powerful union, says the source, adding: “They are working on an arrangement where they can coexist, but at moments like this it’s hard to see how.”
