COLBERT LUCKY TO BE ALIVE!
Emergency surgery for ruptured appendix
LATE-NIGHT star Stephen Colbert made funny cracks about being forced to cancel a week of his CBS talk show, but sources say the host narrowly cheated death after he was rushed to a hospital when his appendix exploded!
On a Nov. 27 social media post, the 59-year-old talking head explained that night’s show and three others were canceled because he was recovering from emergency surgery for a burst appendix.
“I’m grateful to my doctors for their care and to [wife] Evie and the kids for putting up with me,” he writes. “Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, a burst or ruptured appendix is a p potentially life-threatening condindition that spreads infection n throughout the abdomen. Immediate surgery is required to remove the organ.
An insider says Colbert knows he dodged a fatal bullet.
“Stephen can make jokes s all he likes but a ruptured appendix is nothing to laugh about,” dishes the insider. “People aren’t fooled by his sarcastic humor and think he’s lucky to be alive.”
The comic may joke a lot, but he’s dead serious about his pressure-packed late-night g gig and is “a workaholic who doesn’t stop,” tattles the in insider.
“It’s no secret he’s been under intense stress. Even if his show is the mostwatched program on late-night TV, he’s still pressured to keep it on top a and ahead of rivals Jimmy Kimmel K and Jimmy Fallon.
“It’s all about ratings and it’s a sweat bath every time.”
The source suggests Colbert “may have had symptoms all along and may have ignored them until the appendix burst. He must have been in excruciating pain when it ruptured. But everyone is breathing huge sighs of relief he got to the hospital in time.
“His friends and loved ones are saying he’s gotten away with a miracle — whether he admits it or not.”
