Friends worry he’ll wind up a broken man
FRESH off his dirty divorce, cowboy king Kevin Costner is getting makeovers and working to the bone — writing, producing, directing and starring in an epic movie Western — leaving pals fearing it’s too much and he’ll suffer a devastating, delayed meltdown.
Costner’s career gamble, the two-part flick Horizon: An American Saga, is due out next summer and his ego and money are riding on it, snitch sources.
“Kevin is heavily, personally invested and not just his time and effort,” spills an insider. “He has a ton of his Yellowstone money in this thing, and knows there’s no guarantee of success.”
But the 68-year-old is also desperate to maintain his matinee idol looks, losing weight and dying his hair, tattle sources.
After shedding some 15 pounds, Costner was recently spied at a Montecito, Calif., tailor shop having his pants taken in — and sources believe he’s considering plugs to bolster an eroding hairline.
Meanwhile, Kevin is struggling to rebound after wife Christine Baumgartner hit him with divorce papers in May. Baumgartner, mom of his kids Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13, tried to take him to the cleaners.
But when the legal dust settled, Costner’s
$400 million fortune was saved — thanks to a prenup that left Christine with about $1 million, $63,000 monthly in child support and a house.
However, the cost to Kevin’s mental state was high — and added to his worries about Horizon, say sources.
“This divorce took the wind out of him and now he’s desperate to turn over a new leaf,” says the source. “The makeovers, the weight loss, the hair are all part of that.
“He’s like a man possessed and his pals hope this movie is the success he thinks it will be, or they don’t know what he’ll do.”
