10 THINGS YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT KELLY ROWLAND

-

DESTINY’S Child singer Kelly Rowland is ensuring movie fans will say her name with a headlining role as an ambitious criminal defense attorney in Tyler Perry’s new legal thriller Mea Culpa. But Kelly, 43, is more than just the flick’s leading lady — she’s also a producer for the Netflix project. Before launching her film career with parts in Freddy vs. Jason and The Seat Filler, the singer raced up the charts in the late ’90s with the girl group alongside childhood pal Beyoncé and scored a Top Ten hit in 2007 with her solo tune Work. Here are ten things you don’t know about the Grammywinning performer.

1 She was born in Atlanta, Ga., as Kelendria Trene Rowland — but her mom, Doris, used to call her Kelly Welly.

2 She chose a red BMW with a cream interior as her first car because that was the vehicle Jennie Garth’s Kelly Taylor drove on Beverly Hills, 90210.

3 She wants to go skydiving — but admits the thought of jumping out of a plane “scares” her.

4 Kelly used to be able to burp songs, but now swears, “I don’t do that anymore. I’m a lady.”

5 The star is “obsessed” with elephants because “they bring luck, but they’re also just so majestic.”

6 If she didn’t have an entertainment career, she’d want to be a psychological therapist.

7 Her favorite songs to sing in the shower are Lovefool by the Cardigans and anything from the Little Mermaid soundtrack.

8 Her musical hero is Smooth Operator singer Sade.

9 Kelly’s go-to cocktail is a whiskey sour.

10 She collects antique plates because “I’m a Southern woman at heart.”
