Abandoning titles to be U.S. citizen — but Meghan isn’t delighted by idea
AFTER King Charles made it clear ingrate son Prince Harry has zero chance of ever holding an official royal role again, palace insiders say the renegade redhead is set to trash his titles and disown his blueblooded family by becoming an American citizen!
Sources say 39-year-old Harry’s unprecedented move is sending shock waves through his five-year marriage to former B-actress Meghan, who has enjoyed swanning around and flaunting her title, the Duchess of Sussex.
“You can be sure Harry’s fame-obsessed wife is hell-bent on keeping HER title, no matter what her husband says,” a highlevel palace courtier spills. “Meghan got what she went after — a royal husband, two royal kids and a title gifted by the late Queen Elizabeth. She’s never giving that up. It’s her key to fame and fortune!
“She’s been in the world spotlight for six years and has no intention of ever going back to being a B-list — at best — actress. Her royal title is her passport to far bigger and better things.”
But without his royal trappings, the prince will become plain old Harry Sussex — just another Hollywood wannabe.
“His ability to land megamillion-dollar deals will evaporate — and that’s not in Meghan’s master plan!” adds the courtier. “If Harry loves what he calls his ‘amazing’ life in California so much he wants to become an American citizen, good for him. But it comes at a very high price — one I bet common-born Meghan is not willing to pay.
“She’ll fight tooth and nail to keep her title — and her royally indulged lifestyle.”
The tempest in their $14 million Montecito mansion exploded when Harry stunningly admitted in public he’s considering U.S. citizenship and has “no idea” what would stop him — despite putting peace feelers out to his estranged, dying dad.
But to become a citizen, he has to publicly forfeit all his titles and his heritage under U.S. law.
By reciting the Oath of Allegiance, he’d renounce “all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty.”
That means publicly rejecting the family he’s been feuding with since he and Meghan, 42, quit royal duties in 2020 and moved to the Golden State, where they live with their kids, Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 2.
“While Meghan, a U.S. citizen, could keep her title under American law, I’d expect Harry to insist she give it up, too,” says the royal insider. “And that will cause fireworks.
“Let’s not forget, Meghan is strongwilled and has a history of lovin’ and leavin’ guys — including one husband already — when they can no longer boost her ambitions.
“Harry could be next.”
Harry’s bombshell Feb. 16 revelation during an Invictus Games event in Canada blindsided the palace, reveal sources.
It came following his 11,000-mile roundtrip visit to his father Feb. 6 — the day after the 75-year-old monarch revealed his deadly cancer diagnosis, which sources believe is pancreatic.
“The meeting lasted just 30 minutes,” says the courtier. “He apparently indicated he’d return to the royal fold parttime to help out while His Majesty is sidelined by grueling treatments. But it’s been made very clear there is no way back for him.
“That would be a devastating blow for Harry.”
Just a week later, he and Meghan apparently retaliated, defiantly launching their rebranded Sussex.com website, despite Queen Elizabeth’s order not to use their royal titles for commercial ventures.
“Interestingly, they’re using Meghan’s coat of arms, not Harry’s!” notes the source. “It’s like Meghan’s already planning to be the ‘royal’ in the family after Harry forsakes his heritage!”
Meanwhile, Harry’s plan to become a U.S. citizen is a cruel blow to King Charles, say palace insiders.
“How could Harry turn around so fast after seeing his dying father and tell the world he’s ditching every last vestige of the family he was born into?” asks the courtier.
“Charles is fighting for his life and again all Harry is thinking about is himself.
“This traitorous move will break his father’s heart — and could ruin Harry’s marriage in the bargain.”
