Dowe is asset Greenville City Council needs
I am an engineer working in the Greenville community for almost 40 years.
I met Dorothy Dowe in 1989 when we were both young engineers. We immediately connected and became friends, helping each other in the world of consulting engineering. There were few women in the engineering community back then, so it was amazing to watch Dorothy excel in this environment. She was one of the most respected “new” engineers in the business, and I watched in awe.
It could not have been easy being a woman in a man’s world. But that didn’t deter Dorothy. She was able to get people to work together instead of against each other. As an engineer, she has a gift for getting to solutions of problems without letting personal feelings and egos get in the way. I also think that being a female engineer informed her methods to build consensus. I know this to be true because of the women in my life. They were
the ones who always brought people together for a common good.
And now, decades later, Dorothy is still using her gifts serving the residents of Greenville as an at-large city councilwoman. I have, again, watched in awe her last four years on the council. The political world, as we know, can be difficult. Dorothy has found a way to work with all types of people from different backgrounds and consistently demonstrates she is a person with integrity who is decisive but fair.
We need this in our community. We need people who look for results that benefit all citizens of Greenville. We need people to seek solutions to real problems by bringing people together.
My engineering training taught me that there is always an answer. You just have to work together to find it. Dorothy has these abilities in spades.
I wholeheartedly endorse my friend, Dorothy Dowe, for re-election as the at-large councilwoman for the City of Greenville.
