GREENVILLE COUNTY’S TOP PERFORMERS IN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

Here are Greenville County’s top performers from Week 0, the first games of the 2023 high school football season.

Ja’Kari Bennett, Daniel: Bennett ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries as No. 3 Daniel won at Greer, 48-20.

Tremaine Davis Jr., Daniel: Davis returned two kickoffs and set Daniel up near midfield both times. One went for 42 and the other for 36. The Lions scored touchdowns on both drives.

Jamarion Jefferies, Greenville:

Jefferies had 10 tackles, including a sack, as No. 2-ranked (AAAA) Greenville beat No. 10 (AAAAA) Dorman, 3421. The Red Raiders’ defense allowed just 29 yards on Dorman’s first four possession­s and took a 14-0 lead.

Daylon Johnson, Greenville:

Johnson was special on special teams before missing the second half with a knee injury. He blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone on Dorman’s first possession, setting a defensive tone for the Red Raiders.

Jaden Wilson-Abrams, Greenville: Wilson-Abrams played a big part in Greenville’s smothering defense. He had two sacks and nine total tackles.

LaDainnian Martin, Greer: Martin was just about the entire offense for Greer. He scored all three touchdowns. He ran for 145 yards and the other three ball carriers combined on 19 carries for minus-4 yards. Greer totaled 212 yards of offense.

Thomas Stanley, Hillcrest: Stanley ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns on only 10 carries as Hillcrest demolished Laurens, 55-9.

Kaleb Sutton, Hillcrest: Sutton attempted only seven passes. Five were completed. Three went for touchdowns. He had 140 yards through the air and added 41 with a touchdown on the ground.

Ethan Anderson, J.L. Mann: Anderson was sharp in the Patriots’ 49-0 rout of Eastside. The senior quarterbac­k completed 15 of 20 passes for 268 yards. Most of the yardage came from Jacob Wright (four catches for 96 yards) and Mikel McClellan (five for 88).
