GREENVILLE - Doris Radcliffe Hefner died on September 1, 2023. She was born in Marion, S.C. on January 14, 1937 and grew up in Hickory, N.C.. Her parents were Nelson Rome Radcliffe and Olive Moretz Radcliffe. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Johnny (John) Ross Hefner, her son, John Radcliffe Hefner and wife, Valerie, of Elizabetht­own, KY, Her sisters, June Phillips of Owatanna, MN, Jean Richardson (Ray) of Mt. Pleasant, S.C ,Her brother, Jim Radcliffe of Concord, N.C. Her daughter, Leslie Hefner Davis proceeded her in death in 2021. Alice Betz, Her older sister preceded her in death in 2013. Surviving also are her beloved grandchild­ren, John Morgan Hefner (Lily), Erin Hefner Teplick (Christophe­r), Alexandra Radcliffe Hefner, Ian Ross Davis and Jared McClendon Davis and Her wonderful great grandchild­ren, John Thomas Teplick and Grace Katherine Teplick. She is also survived by eight nieces and many cherished friends, Including “The Bridge Group”, adult lifelong friends in Greenville, S.C. Mrs Hefner graduated from Emory University and from Furman University's graduate program. She was well know in Greenville as and outstandin­g Elementary School Educator. She retired in 1999 after 28 years in teaching. As a result of being nominated by excelling former students a a life changing force in their lives, she appeared in “Who's Who in American Education” in five different published volumes from 1989 to 2000. During her lifetime, she was actively involved in a variety of community, social and church related activities. She was an avid golfer and on five occasions, had a hole in one. None of these causes or activities held her imaginatio­n and purpose like teaching did. She considered herself “Lucky” to have found the thing she was born to do. A Memorial Service, honoring her memory will be held in The Harper Chapel at First Presbyteri­an Church in downtown Greenville, S.C. on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. A burial site service will be held at the Family Plot in Oakwood Cemetery, Hickory, N.C. at later date. Family suggested Memorial Sites ar The St. Jude's Children Hospital or The St. Francis Hospital System, "Open Arms" Hospice Organizati­on.
