PIEDMONT - George Richard Leweke, 76, of Piedmont, SC, passed away on September 22, 2023. Born on May 13, 1947, George lived a life filled with compassion and dedication to others. George was a lifelong philanthro­pist and public servant. His boisterous voice and sense of humour made him unforgetta­ble, and he seldom met a stranger. George’s unwavering dedication and generosity touched the lives of many. He is survived by his loving daughter, Dawn Parker, and nephews Kevin and Brian Tinsley. George was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Madalene Leweke, his sisters Judy Tinsley and Madalene Leweke, and his brother James Leweke. George served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. After his military service, George graduated college from Illinois State University before moving to South Carolina. Throughout his career, George owned and operated Leweke Realty, Inc. for 40 years, leaving a lasting impact on the Real Estate industry. He was a lifetime member of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity and a member of MENSA. In addition to his profession­al endeavours, George was a volunteer firefighte­r at the South Greenville Fire Department for 25 years, a vocational teacher at Greenville Technical College, a volunteer CPR Instructor for the Redcross, a volunteer at Freedom Weekend Aloft for 20 years, and was truly passionate about local and national elections process dedicating over 25 years of service to the Greenville County Election Commission. A Celebratio­n of Life for George will be held on November 12, from 2 PM to 4 PM, at the Augusta Road Ruritan Club located at 7788 Augusta Rd, Piedmont, SC. George loved to share his stories and we invite everyone to join us as we honor his life. George Richard Leweke will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and service will continue to inspire and touch lives for generation­s to come.
