Greenwich Academy completed a successful two-day stay at the St. George’s School Invitational Tournament on Saturday, skating to a 7-3 victory over Hebron Academy.

The Gators (4-3-1), who also defeated host St. George’s School from Middletown, R.I., went 2-1 in the tournament.

“It was a great tournament,” GA coach Erin Brawley said. “For us to get wins against two league opponents was important. The girls were excited on the way home.”

In Saturday’s victory against Hebron Academy, senior Paige Keating and freshman Hamilton Doster each registered two goals to lead the Gators. Senior forward Bobbi Roca and sophomore forward Else Esmond added one goal apiece for Greenwich Academy, which received strong play in goal from both eighth-grader Lianna Seeley and freshman Emily Greenhaw.

After falling to The Hill School, 7-0, GA rebounded by edging St. George’s, 1-0, on Friday. Senior forward Grace Curran scored the game-winner with six minutes left to play with GA on a power play.

Seeley helped secure the win, making 25 saves against St. George’s.

“The St. George’s game was a real nail-biter, our team kept fighting throughout,” Brawley said. “Bobbi Roca also played defense that game and did everything we asked of her. She is willing to go out there and do all the hard work in the corners. Ava Butz was great and Grace Schulze helped us kill a couple of penalties with some blocked shots.”

Cameron Brower and Sydney Pittignano also helped pace Greenwich Academy in their win over Hebron on Saturday. Greenwich Academy has some time off, as its next game isn’t until Jan. 5 against Vermont Academy at Chelsea Piers in Stamford.

BRUNSWICK HOCKEY

Facing a two-goal deficit against Rivers School the Bruins staged a comeback and edged the Red Wings, 3-2, on the second day of the St. Sebastian’s Holiday Tourney on Saturday.

The win moved the Bruins into the tournament’s consolation finals against Williston Northampton School on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Following a quick opening tally, Rivers scored a 5-on-3 power-play goal with 15 minutes left to play in the first of two 25-minute periods.

Facing a 2-0 hole, Brunswick finished the opening period with two goals to tie the score at 2-2. Aaron Aboodi scored his second goal in as many days with a power-play goal, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Aboodi set-up the tying goal on a feed to Cooper Moore (ninth goal of the season).

In the second period, the Bruins took their first lead on a power-play tally by Ryan St. Louis (fourth goal of the season).

Brunswick’s defensemen made the one-goal lead stand, as goalie Dan Dachille turned away numerous Rivers School shots down the stretch.
