NBA all-star brings his story to town

Scene… A talk and book signing with Greenwich resident Allan Houston, senior adviser to the general manager of the New York Knicks, will take place at Harvest Time Church on King Street after the 9 and 11 a.m. worship services on June 2. The former NBA all-star and 2000 Olympic gold medalist has written a book titled “The Fundamenta­ls of Life: Life in 3D,” which is based on the principles of faith, integrity, sacrifice, leadership and legacy. Out there… Peter Sutton, the outgoing executive director of the Bruce Museum, will be honored with the 2019 Citizen of the Year Award from the Greenwich Rotary Club at 6 p.m. June 6 at the Round Hill Club. Out there… The YWCA Greenwich’s Centennial Celebratio­n, which will honor Greenwich residents Jill Plancher and Sandy Waters, takes place June 1 at the YWCA on East Putnam Avenue. The event will feature a formal dinner, dancing and a silent and live auction led by former major league ball player and manager Bobby Valentine of Stamford. Scene… Award-winning poet Peter Balakian will speak at the Greenwich Library at 2 p.m. June 2. Balakian, author of seven books of poems and four other books, won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for his collection of poems, “Ozone Journal.” He is an English professor and director of creative writing at Colgate University. On stage…The Ridgefield Playhouse will hold the ultimate girls night out with “An Evening With the Celebrity Housewives,” as Teresa Guidice, Kelly Dodd and former Greenwich resident Sonja Morgan share stories of their personal lives, businesses and fame from Bravo TV’s “The Real Housewives” franchise. Out there… The fifth annual luncheon to benefit the Inner-City Foundation takes place June 5 at the Belle Haven Club in Greenwich. Emmy-nominated TV host and interior designer Holly Holden of the PBS series “You Are Cordially Invited” will share a behind-the-scenes look at two of the most notable homes in England: Highclere Castle from “Downton Abbey” and Blenheim Palace. For her PBS show, Holden took a tour of Highclere with Lady Carnarvon. Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill, the eldest daughter of the 11th Duke of Marlboroug­h, gave Holden a tour of Blenheim, her childhood home. On top… Francois Barcomb of New Paltz, N.Y., won the “Jeopardy!” Teachers Tournament last week, taking home the $100,000 top prize. Barcomb is a physics teacher at Hendrick Hudson High School in northern Westcheste­r County.
