Karen Hirsh
Party: Democrat
Office sought: Board of Education candidate
Age: 47
Incumbent: no
Current job: Past president of the Greenwich Parent Teacher Association Council Education: Cornell University
The most important issue in this election: Along with supporting our new superintendent and advocating for the needs of and improving the academic experience for all students, while focusing on their socialemotional growth, physical safety, wellbeing and mental health, my priorities include strengthening communication with all stakeholders and supporting the physical improvement and academic needs of our schools.
Other issues: Greenwich has weathered its fair share of issues in the past, many of which impacted our public schools. I believe these are the big issues we face at the moment: tight budgets, the need to improve school/town fields and facilities, strengthening the relationship between the Board and community, keeping a superintendent, all while maintaining our reputation for educational excellence.
Family: I am the proud parents of two children currently attending Greenwich Public Schools. My daughter is an eighthgrader at Western Middle School and my son is a junior at Greenwich High School. My husband, Peter, is also a very proud graduate of GHS.
Previous elected offices, community group affiliations: I have been involved in advocating for the students in Greenwich for close to a decade in my prior leadership roles as President of PTA Council, a member of the Board of Directors of CTPTA, a member of Greenwich YWCA’s Board of Directors, President of Glenville School PTA and of Greenwich Public School Honor Choir Booster Club. Additionally, I have held countless VP and Rep roles in the areas of advocating for students with learning differences and special needs, fundraising, event planning, advanced learning, School Improvement Plan, and Scholarship.
