Ferry service sets sail to the islands again
A taste of Italy… The St. Lawrence Society on Valley Road in Cos Cob will be dishing up a “We’re All in This Together Dinner ToGo” featuring Chef Tony’s classic gluten-free chicken scarpariello with salad and bread. The deadline to order is 9 p.m. July 1. Pickup is Friday, July 3, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. or 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $15.95 per person for SLS members and $17.95 for nonmembers. Out there… The Bedford Playhouse in Bedford, N.Y., is hosting a free questionand-answer session with Dr. Andrew J. Gerber on “Let’s Talk Mental Wellness” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 29. Gerber, president and medical director at Silver Hill Hospital, will speak about the importance of developing better social and emotional wellness programs in our schools, workplaces and communities to improve mental health care. Townie news… The pool in Byram Park will be open starting Monday, June 29, with reduced capacity for pool admissions to ensure social distancing on the pool deck. Ferry service to Island Beach and Great Captain’s Island will also resume with hourly service daily to Island Beach beginning at 10 a.m. Monday. Parking is free on Sundays and town holidays in all town-operated parking lots and metered spaces.
That Girl… The former Beachside Avenue home in Westport of actress Marlo Thomas (“That Girl”) and talk-show host Phil Donahue is on the market again for a cool $28 million. The famous couple sold the waterfront home in 2013 for $20 million. That same year, their neighbor, the late radio personality Don
Imus and his wife, Deirdre, sold their estate on Beachside Avenue for $14.4 million. And in 2018, the Beachside Avenue home of now-disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein sold for $16 million.
Out there… Greenwich Library’s virtual Open Mic Night on Zoom for writers and creative’s takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8. Speakers are invited to sign up for five-minute slots and share original stories, scenes, poems, blogs, photographs, artwork or music. Space is limited to 20 speakers. Out there… Stamford Downtown is launching its second farmers market starting July 1 on West Park Place near Columbus Park. It will run on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also, the Spring Street farmers market, which is in the Spring Street Parking Lot, takes place Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Patrons must wear masks. All vendors must wear masks and gloves and keep a six-foot barrier between vendor booths and the customers.
The Stamford Downtown farmers markets will accept SNAP/EBT cards for payment. Vendors include: Amelia’s Florist & Farm Market, The Blue Bakery, Beldotti Bakery, Biscuit and Bones, Joe Studio, Meredith’s Country Bakery, Mill Pond Essentials, Vesco Foods, Wanke’s Yankee Hot Pepper Products and Waterview Farm.
Summer art… Thirty-five sculptures will be placed throughout the city as part of the Stamford Downtown Special Service District’s outdoor summer sculpture exhibit, the 2020 Art Collective. The artwork, which will be in place through September, is on loan by six regional artists, including Gilbert Boro, Barry Gunderson, Lorann Jacobs, David Millen, Morris Norvin and Emily Teall. This year, there is a free audio tour with an interactive map, sculpture photos, artist narratives and information about downtown restaurants that can be downloaded.
