Photographers from all over town are invited to snap photos of their favorite scenes in the town’s parks and enter them in a contest run by the town Parks and Recreation Department to promote July as Parks and Recreation Month.

The contest is open to amateurs and professionals; anyone who wants to take part can enter.

The deadline for the For The Love of Parks and Recreation contest is 1 p.m. July 30. Winners will be announced in early August.

First prize is a foursome golf certificate for the Griffith E. Harris Golf Course; second prizes is five single entry park passes for the 2021 season; and the third prize is a parks and recreation gift basket. The department will form a committee to judge the contest.

Photos must be taken at town of Greenwich Parks and Recreations facilities or at town programs or events. They cannot contain any identifiable people and must be high-quality originals free of filters or copyrights. A maximum of four photos may be submitted per participant.

Photos can be submitted at www.greenwichct.gov/ 1932/Photo-Contest.

Digital photos must be in .jpg, .jpeg, .png or .gif format and must be a maximum of 20 MB total for all entries. All participants must agree that the submissions may be used by the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation for any use.

Cos Cob

River House Adult Day Center is set to throw a party with a game theme from 6 to 9 p.m. July 22 at its headquarters at 125 River Road Ext. in Cos Cob.

The party, which is dubbed Game On, promises to be a “casual, adult evening of summer fun and games. The event will be both indoors and outdoors on the patio. Participants can join in games of minigolf, cornhole, giant Jenga, and more.

There will also be a silent auction, a wine pull and live music from Cover Store. Summer fare will be served by Marcia Selden along with beer, wine and hard seltzer. Organizers said participants are invited to wear their best shorts and flip-flips for the event.

“The idea behind Game On is that we wanted to have a fun fundraiser,” said Anne Murdock, River House’s development director. “The idea came to us because during the day our clients here at River House play a lot of games. We have a lot of great recreation that they can do. Why don’t we do it in venue where we can have guests here and do a fundraiser? We can make it fun for everybody and show people what we do with our clients on a daily basis and how much they get out of it.”

River House is asking that all attendees be fully vaccinated.

“We’re very hopeful we’re going to have a great crowd and everyone is going to have fun coming together for this,” Murdock said.

River House is a nonprofit organization, and fundraisers are critical to providing needed services, Murdock said. A major fundraiser was planned for May 2020, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The adult day center provides comprehensive, recreational and medical services to aging adults while offering guidance and support to their caregivers.

Tickets for the event start at $100 and can be purchased online at www.theriverhouse.org. All of the proceeds will benefit River House’s Fund A Client scholarship fund.

Belle Haven

It was a momentous day for the Putnam Hill Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as it announced that visitors are once again welcome at the Putnam Cottage and Knapp Tavern Museum for tours by appointment.

The chapter and the Israel Putnam House Association met at the Belle Haven Club on June 17 to hold its election, conduct a regular meeting business and serve a luncheon. Nearly 50 women from the Greenwich area attended, including new and prospective members.

Guest speaker Lee Kennedy gave an “informative presentation” on the history of the American flag. And there was a welcome for the newly elected and installed board member Bronwyn Rockefeller.

The new board was also elected and installed for the Israel Putnam House Association, with Dorothy Darlington as president; Barbara Sweetman Wolf as treasurer; Molly Kokoruda as secretary; and Evelyn Roberts, Gail Citarella, Victoria Hamet and Cynthia Olsen Gates as councilors.

The DAR also put out a call for new members. It is open to women 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. Interested women should contact Registrar Joan Marshall Cresap at JMCESQNY@aol.com or by calling Katie Sumner at 203-637-6789.

First Selectman Fred Camillo last week urged all residents to consider helping the American Red Cross.

Rising trauma cases, organ transplants and elective surgeries are depleting the blood supply across the country, Camillo said in a statement. The Red Cross urgently needs blood donors of all types, especially type O, and platelet donors to overcome this severe blood shortage.

“I hope that you will sign up to give the gift of life at one of the five upcoming donation drives here in town,” he said.

Here are the local blood drives:

July 23: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Greenwich Hospital, 5 Perryridge Road.

July 28: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Greenwich Hospital, 5 Perryridge Road.

July 28: 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Greenwich Hospital, 5 Perryridge Road.

Aug. 2: 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Christ Church Greenwich, 254 E. Putnam Ave.
